The Tote Win pool is as simple as it gets. You’re just trying to pick a horse to win the race – pick your horse, enter your stake and place your bet.

The Tote Place pool is the same but you’re aiming to get your selection ‘placed’ in the race. The number of places on offer or ‘place terms’ vary depending on race conditions and the Place pool is not available at all on races of four runners or fewer – these races are called ‘win only’. Make sure you check the top of the race card to know how many places you have to aim for.
You can combine Tote Win and Tote Place by placing an each-way bet, but bear in mind that these are two separate pools and the place price is not derived from the win price as with fixed-odds bookmakers. Tote Guarantee only applies to the Win part of these bets
